"No youth survivor of incest should have to ask their rapist for consent to an abortion," state Sen. Becca Rausch, D-Needham, said in a statement. "No young person should be forced to explain to a judge why they aren’t ready to be a parent. No one should be forced to leave the commonwealth in order to access the health care they need, especially during a deadly pandemic of epic proportions. By rejecting the Legislature’s work to remedy these wrongs -- wrongs imposed by state law on pregnant people throughout Massachusetts -- Gov. Baker clearly states that these circumstances are not only acceptable, but appropriate," Rausch continued. "The governor’s actions demonstrate blatant disregard for the health, safety and well-being of pregnant people all across this commonwealth, particularly pregnant people of color."

“Already, 11 days into December, we’ve blown the spring numbers out of the water,” Rausch said Friday. “The additional so-called measures that the governor announced earlier this week are insufficient and inadequate.”

Senator Rausch, along with other attleboro area leaders, express dismay and disapointment at Baker's decision to not open a Stop the Spread COVID testing site in Attleboro.

Only two US states have legal protections barring workplace discrimination based on weight. Massachusetts could become the third with a new bill that outlaws body size discrimination, and Senator Rausch is the Senate sponsor of this bill.

“Current statutory law in Massachusetts governing abortion is archaic, medically inaccurate, politically charged and designed to discourage and shame pregnant people seeking abortion care,” Rausch said.
